John D. Davison, 86, Canton, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926 in Middlegrove, the son of Aaron and Opal (Morse) Davison.
He married Charlotte A. Balagnaon July 31, 1949 at the Presbyterian Church in Farmington. She died March 5, 2004.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Mount Baker.
John worked as a coal miner, managed the Gamble-Tempo store, and was senior vice-president of the Canton State Bank of Canton for 28 years. He also worked for Gorsuch Appliance.
John was a die-hard Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Bears and Bulls.
John’s love was his family and close friends. His other activities included hunting, fishing, picking up apples, travel and meeting people.
Through his lifetime, he was a member and volunteer of the Canton American Legion Post 16, Community Chest, Cancer Society, Fulton County Heart Association, Salvation Army, United Way, YMCA, and many more organizations.
He was elected Man of the Year in 1970. He served as Parade Marshal of the Friendship Festival in 1992.
John was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church for almost 50 years.
He is survived by his children, Alicia (Philip) Nebergall, Scott A. Davison, and JoAnne S. Davison; seven grandchildren, Michael A. Davison, Tim (Janelle) Nebergall, Christopher Nebergall, Scott Romine, Joseph Davison, Samantha Davison and Kylie Davison; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte; son, John Michael “Mike” Davison; and two brothers, Leon Morse and Leonard Davison.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, Canton, with the Rev. James Reed and the Rev. Rick Atchley officiating.
Burial with military honors was held at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
