Marvin L. Burkhart

Marvin L. Burkhart, 81, Leaf River, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon.  

He was born Nov. 26, 1930 in Rockford, the son of Jesse and Florence Alden Burkhart.  

He married Sandra Hunt on Nov. 17, 1956 in Rockford.  

Marvin was a U.S. Navy veteran, member of the Leaf River American Legion, Leaf River Baptist Church, Leaf River Lions Club, Ogle County Farm Bureau, and the Ogle County Pork Producers.  

He was also a board member of the Leaf River Fire Department and the Rock River Co-Op.  

Marvin farmed in the Leaf River area for many years and enjoyed bowling. 

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; daughter, Wendy Burkhart, Freeport; son, Kim Burkhart , Leaf River; granddaughter, Tanya Canfield; great-grandchildren, Jacob Christensen and Cole Canfield; and sister, Lavonne (Ted) Bacino, Leaf River.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Cindy and Tracy.  

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron, with Pastor Randy Newton officiating.  

Burial was in Byron Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home.
