Galen F. Harms, 66, Poplar Grove, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at his home.
He was born June 25, 1946 in Rochelle; the son of Frederick and Maebelle (Ludwig) Harms.
He married Lynn Hedrick on Aug. 20, 1983 at Paynes Point Church, rural Ogle County.
Galen was a machinist for Ekstrom Carlson Company, then a maintenance mechanic at River Bluff Nursing Home.
Following his retirement, he worked as a realtor for a short time.
Galen was a member of Christ the Rock Church and former member of Kirkland Lions Club.
He also served on the Zoning Commission in Kirkland.
Galen loved his family very much, and was known for being able to repair anything.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; stepson, Larry (Debi Ries) Replogle, Rockton; grandson, Alexander Replogle; siblings, Sandy (Ken) Estes, Rockford, Gordon (Kathy) Harms, Branson, Mo., and Lois Hayes, Baraboo, Wis.; sister-in-law, Patricia Harms, Moberly, Mo.; brothers-in-law, Gene Hedrick, Jack Hedrick both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law, Lila Hedrick; brothers, Darrell, Lyle, and Donald Harms; and sister-in-law, Dee M. Carlson.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with Rev. David Meggers officiating.
Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fred C. Olson Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to the service in the funeral home.
