Community breakfast serves 15th meal

Published: Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 1:57 p.m. CDT

Dear Editor,

Smells Like Breakfast, which is held usually the fourth Saturday of each month at Pinecrest Grove in Mt. Morris, has now completed 15 consecutive breakfasts for the community.

The purpose of the breakfasts is to offer a good, hot meal to those in the community with limited income, and to get Mr. Morris community groups together to help serve at the breakfast and meet each other.

There have been 24 community groups who have helped us serve since July of 2011, providing 147 workers.

Groups involved are Mt. Morris Village Board, Mt. Morris Village employees, Mt. Morris Library Board, Circle M 4-H Club, Eagle Scout Joe Miranda and his mom, Mt. Morris Post Office employees, Pinecrest Community Board, Current Events Club, REO Chapter CU, Pinecreek Women's Club, Lions Club, Trinity Lutheran Church Board, Church of the Brethren Women's Fellowship, Sharon's Salon and Spa, Aspiring Health Chiropractic Clinic, PAG members, MMHS Class of 1957, MMHS Class of 1965, MMHS Faculty and Staff of 1982-83, Bookish Babes Book Club, Revive Ministries, the Gideons, Samuel H. Davis Masonic Lodge 96, and Book Babes Book Club.

Members of the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren have done the planning and organizing, and cooking.

Breakfasts are served on a donation only basis, and we have been able to create enough extra money after expenses to give to the Pinecrest Good Samaritan Fund, Loaves and Fish Food Pantry, Joe Miranda's Eagle Scout Project at Mt. Morris Estates, and towards programming for the Mt. Morris Public Library.

The October Smells Like Breakfast will be served by members of the Mt. Morris Police and Fire departments, and all donations will go towards the community Toys for Tots program.

Thanks to all the community folks who have helped serve the breakfasts, and all in the community who have attended. We appreciate your support very much.
