Leonard J. Baumann

Leonard J. Baumann, 90, Polo, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.

Leonard was born June 5, 1922 in West Chicago, the son of Peter and Margaret (Theis) Baumann.

He married Joanne Stemple on Jan. 21, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church, Aurora.

He farmed his whole life starting on the family farm near West Chicago before moving to his farm in rural Polo in 1969.

Leonard raised livestock and ran a farm tiling business, Baumann Tiling, for many years.

He loved the land, family, grandchildren, and life.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Polo, the Batavia and Polo Knights of Columbus, Eola School Board, LICA Contractors and Ogle County Livestock Association.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joanne; daughters, Susan (Charles) Brunner, Washington, Ill., Nancy (Tim) Butcher, Phoenix, Ariz., Cindy (Ryan) Methieu, Freeport; sons, Jack (Patty) Baumann, Klamath Falls, Ore., Mike (Donna) Baumann, Polo;  nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Serenity Hospice and Home for their loving care.

Services were held Oct. 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Polo. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

Arrangements were completed by Polo Family Funeral Home.
