John C. Grady

John C. “Jack” Grady, 82, Chana, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at his home.

He was born April 5, 1930 in Oregon, the son of Floyd and Gwendolyn (Blocher) Grady.

He married to Neva Hansen Engelkes May 12, 1982 in Franklin Grove.

Jack lived in the Ogle and Lee County area all his life.

He was a 1948 graduate of Franklin Grove High School and a 1953 graduate of Manchester College and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jack was a paper salesman in Rockford and Chicago for more than 50 years, retiring in 1997, and a purebred sheep farmer in Chana for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Neva Grady, Chana; son, Jim (Linda) Grady, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; daughter, Kim (Wayne) Bush,Apache Junction, Ariz.; step-son, Bruce Engelkes (fiancé Lorna Headlee), Dixon; step-daughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Echelbarger, Amboy, Barb (Randy) Shankel, Franklin Grove and Billie Jo (Doug) Heier, Ashton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Judy Burke.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Atlasta Park, South State Street, Franklin Grove.
