Eugene C. Canfield

Eugene Clifton Canfield, 83, lifelong resident of Chana, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at his home.

He was born March 31, 1929 in Oregon, the son of Earl and Bessie Fowler Canfield.

He married Ruthanne Johnston in Chana on Dec. 16, 1981.

Gene was a longtime carpenter, enjoyed woodworking, was very mechanically talented, and was a “master” of all trades.

He was a veteran of the Army National Guard, serving in Germany, and was a member of the VFW.

Gene also was an officer of Chapel Hill Cemetery Association and a faithful member of Chana United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthanne; and son, Mark (Amber) Canfield, Chana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce; and brothers, Glenn and Russell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 12  at 10 a.m. at Chana United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Chana.

Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice & Home, Chana United Methodist Church, or Chapel Hill Cemetery.
