A Rochelle attorney has been selected to serve as an associate judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit.

John C. Redington, 47, was chosen by the judges in the circuit for the post from a field of 10 candidates.

Michael J. Tardy, Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, made the announcement on Monday.

The 15th Judicial Circuit is comprised of the counties of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle and Stephenson in northwestern Illinois.

Redington, who served as an Ogle County Assistant State's Attorney from 1990-1993, will fill the post left vacant when former Associate Judge Robert Hanson was sworn in July 5 as a circuit judge in Ogle County to replace Judge Stephen Pemberton, who had recently retired from the bench.

Hanson was appointed to fill the post until Nov. 30 when Pemberton's term expires.

Hanson is running unopposed for the post in the Nov. 6 election.

Associate judges are appointed by the circuit judges in the circuit where they serve.

Redington received his undergraduate degree in 1987 from Western Illinois University, Macomb, and his juris doctor in 1990 from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.

He is currently affiliated with the law firm Tess & Redington, Rochelle.
