Jerry Gipe

Jerry “Gipper” Gipe, 57, Winnebago, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 from the results of an automobile accident.

Jerry was born on Sept. 12,1955, in Freeport, the son of Walter S. “Red” and Mary Jean (Kalas) Gipe.

He graduated from Pecatonica High School class of 1973 and attended Rock Valley College.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1980.

He worked as a chef for Mr. “C” restaurant in Rockford.

He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing , gardening, cooking, riding his motorcycle and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Jordyn Gipe, Winnebago; special friend, Cheryl “Cookie” Ricker, Winnebago; mother, Mary Jean Gipe, Pecatonica; brothers, Don (Kim) Gipe, Pecatonica, Tom (Pat) Gipe, Pecatonica, Tim (Dina) Gipe, Sandwich; friend, Denise Gipe, Rockford; step-daughter, Okeyma (Todd) Lundin, Rockford; grandchildren, Chase, Eli and Noah; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by father, Walter S. Gipe; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral ceremonies will be held Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Pecatonica United Methodist Church, with Pastor Amy Poust officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m.  at the Countryman Funeral Home, 529 Washington St., Pecatonica.

In lieu of flowers memorials will be established.
