Shelby E. Cain, Jr.

Shelby E. Cain Jr., 84, Adeline, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at his home.

He was born May 22, 1928 in Ogle County the son of Shelby and Olive (Kretsinger) Cain.

Shelby married Doris M. Reed on Feb.15, 1953 in Freeport.  She died April 15, 2010.

Cain was a lifelong farmer in the Adeline area.  He served on the Maryland Township board.

More than anything, Shelby enjoyed farming. He was a member of the Adeline Zion Evangelical Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Thomas) Svoboda,Griffith, Ind.; two sisters; Vaida Yelinek and Pat Lingbeck, both of Leaf River; two grandsons, Timothy (Michelle) Svoboda and Philip (Shelly) Svoboda; seven great-grandchildren, Elijah, Levi, Eden, Titus, Micah, Nadia and Quinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at Adeline Zion Evangelical Church, Adeline.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.  
A memorial has been established in his name.
