Polo man is charged with sexual abuse

An Ogle County judge increased the bond for a Polo man who is charged with sexually molesting a teenage girl.

Judge Michael Mallon increased the bond for Shannan Haenitsch, 40, from $75,000 to $200,000 during a hearing Sept. 17.

Ogle County deputies arrested Haenitsch on Sept. 14 on four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felonies.

Sheriff Michael Harn said the victim was a 16-year-old who had reported to deputies in early June that she had sexual relations with Haenitsch.

Deputies searched his house and confiscated three computers and a cellphone, which deputies believe was used to communicate with the girl, Harn said.

Those items have been sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab in Rockford to be examined and results could come back in a few weeks, he said.

Ogle County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Rock said the bond was increased on motion filed by the state because Haenitsch is also facing a July charge in Lee County of distributing harmful material to a minor, a misdemeanor.

According to the Lee County complaint, Haenitsch gave a 17-year-old girl nude videos of himself in a shower in March. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 11 on that charge.

Haenitsch is currently being held in the Ogle County Jail.
