Quick action by Mt. Morris police chief leads to capture of fugitive and return of 14-year-old girl

Quick action by Mt. Morris Police Chief Jason White last week led to the capture of a Pennsylvania fugitive and the return home of the 14-year-old girl who was with him.

White said he believes Donald S. Guthrie, 38, Jersey City, Pa., a convicted sex offender and bank robbery suspect, was intending to rob the Union Saving Bank in Mt. Morris in the early afternoon of Sept. 5.

The veteran policeman was on routine patrol around 1:30 p.m. when he spotted Guthrie, wearing a hooded sweatshirt despite the 90-degree weather, headed for the door of the Union Savings Bank on the corner of Wesley Avenue and Main Street.
