Alice Louise Lang

Alice Louise (Sweet) Lang, 95, formerly of Polo, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor Terrace, Mt. Morris.

Louise, which she was known by, was born Dec. 15, 1916, in rural Polo, the fourth of five children of Fred and Alice (Paul) Sweet.

She attended Donaldson School, a country school, and graduated from Polo High School.

She worked, for a time, for Kable News Company, Mt. Morris, and then for the Polo Utility Company.

Louise loved to bowl and met her future husband, Bob Lang, Forreston, at the Polo Bowling Alley.

She and Bob were married on June 15, 1952.

They lived in Polo until Bob’s retirement, when they moved to West Palm Beach, Fla.

They both enjoyed their life there for 31 years, becoming surrogate grandparents to many neighborhood children.

They were both walkers in their neighborhood, and quickly made many friends.

Bob and Louise traveled often to destinations around the country and around the world.

Louise was an avid seamstress, making most of her clothes, and became a beautiful artist with the petit-point pictures that she created.

She will live on with the great art that hangs in the homes of her family members.

Bob died Aug. 9, 2011 in West Palm Beach, and Louise returned to be a resident at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris, where she received loving care for the next 13 months of her life.

She moved back to the area to be close to her four nieces.

Louise was preceded in death by her wonderful life-mate, Bob; her parents; and her siblings, Marian Sensiba, Leland, Robert, and George Sweet.

She is survived by nieces, Juanita Hartle, JoAnn Boddiger, and Jean Walker, all of Polo; Jacqueline Dixon, Bloomington, Cheryl O’Neil, Sterling; and nephew, David Sweet, Cody, Wyo.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Sept. 16t at 2 p.m. at White Oak Cemetery, Forreston.
