Charles F. Nelson, 84, Polo, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Nelson was born Jan. 23, 1927 in Monmouth, the son of Thorwald L. and Lois (Miller) Nelson. 

He married Beulah Behrens on Oct. 6, 1946 in Manlius. 

He farmed in the Tampico area for many years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a past member of the Polo American Legion. 

Nelson was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Polo and enjoyed fishing and hunting. 

He especially loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah, Polo; his children Daniel Nelson, Polo, Diana Shippert, Dixon, Donald (Marilyn) Nelson, Polo and Duane (Susan) Nelson, Rock Falls; his grandchildren, Cory (Kim)Nelson, Curt Nelson (Ashley Houck), Chad (Sara) Nelson, Ryan (Robyn) Nelson, Andrew Nelson (Heather Holder), Brian (Michelle) Shippert, Renee (Nathan) Gray, Brad (Erin) Shippert, and Lori (Josh) Christen; his great-grandchildren, Natalie, Logan, Samantha, Wesley, Owen, Spencer and Lexi; and a sister,  Jeanette Frank, Tampico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Sandrock; a brother, Donald Nelson; a son-in-law, Wesley Shippert; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Nelson.

Cremation rites have been accorded. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Polo. 

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. 

Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Falls.
