The Forreston High School girls basketball team finished off the Forreston Girls Thanksgiving Tournament by winning two of three games, and that allowed them to finish in third place out of six teams.

The Lady Cardinals had no problems coming away with a win over Christian Life on Nov. 21 as they defeated them by a score of 54-34, and they followed that up with an easy victory over Eastland on Nov. 22 by a score of 52-30.

In the tournament’s final game, Forreston couldn’t overcome an early deficit, and they fell to Stockton on Nov. 23 by a score of 46-39.

The 2-1 record in the final three games of the tournament gave them a 3-2 mark for the tourney, and moved their season mark to 4-2.

In the team standings, Rochelle went 5-0 to finish in first place, Stockton was 4-1 and finished in second, Winnebago was fifth, and Christian Life was sixth.

One Lady Cardinal was named to the tournament’s all-tournament team for her efforts during the tournament. Emily Korf earned all-tourney recognition as she was named to the five person squad.

Forreston didn’t waste time jumping out to a lead in their Nov. 21 match-up against Christian Life as they outscored their opponents by five in the first, and they went into the second leading 16-11.

The second quarter was close, but the Lady Cards did add three points to their lead going into the half, 27-19. They added three more points to their advantage in the third, and led by 11 with one period remaining, 34-23.

Forreston exploded for 20 points in the final quarter as they held the Lady Eagles to seven, and went on to post a 20 point victory, 54-34.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Cards were Rachel Walton with 16 points, including four three-pointers; Mykil Baker added 10, Korf had seven, Hannah Curry and Anna Drake each finished with six, Maggie Curry chipped in four, Ketarah DeVries finished with three, and Morgan Heinz had two for Forreston.

The Lady Cards pulled ahead of Eastland early in their match-up on Nov. 22, and they led by eight points following the first quarter of play, 15-7. The second quarter was more of the same, and they held on to a 16 point advantage at the half, 31-15.
