Team Wedali finishes first

By Chris Johnson - Reporter

With an amazing time of 17 hours 26 minutes, team Wedali crossed the finish line first during the Thunder Rolls Adventure Race Aug. 28.

“Our team name stands for We Eat Dust and Like It,” said Scott Erlandson, Albert Lea, Minn.  “We ate a lot of dust today.”

Wedali was competing in the three person 24 hour coed division.

The team finished ahead of team Bushwhacker with a time of 18 hours 21 minutes and team Alpine shop with a time of 19 hours 11 minutes.

Wedali was at the finish line to cheer these teams on.

The course was not easy for Wedali, they found some parts challenging.

“The most challenging part is hard to chose,” said Erlandson, “But pack rafting up river.”

“Your favorite?” questioned team member Molly Moilanen, Minneapolis, Minn.

“No, most challenging,” replied Erlandson.

“I though it was your favorite,” joked teammate Justin Bakken, Minneapolis, Minn.

“I don’t think I said a word the whole boat ride,” said Erlandson.

The team enjoyed the bike portion of the race.

“The bike ride was nice, and that went well,” said Erlandson.  “We found some good thorns, thistles, and a lot of stinging nettles.”

Race organizer Gerry Voelliger presented the team with first place certificates and prizes for their efforts during the race.

How has Friday's snowstorm affected you?
I am staying inside.
I like snow and plan on cross-country skiing/sledding.
I don't like it because I have to shovel snow.
I expect it because I live in Northern Illinois.
It has not affected me at all.
