Art on the Hill brings in $10,000

Hot weather Aug. 29 didn’t  slow art lovers down.

Despite the 90 degrees and high humidity, more than 100 people attended the third annual Art on the Hill, which benefits the Rock River Center.

“Our attendance was up from the previous two years and our sales were up, too,” said RRC Executive Director Karen Copeland. “We are very happy with that.”

The event features an art auction, food tasting, and music at Pinehill Inn, Oregon. Proceeds are earmarked for the RRC building project.

RRC is completing a new center on 10th Street, Oregon, which will offer more space and better parking than the current facilities in Oregon’s downtown.

Copeland said more than 50 pieces of art were auctioned and included sculptures, paintings, jewelry, photography, fabric, pottery, and more.

“We even had edible art,” she said.

Although the proceeds were not completely tallied, Copeland said the event brought in about $2,000 more than last year.

“We were shooting for $10,000, and I’m quite sure we did that at least,” she said.

How has Friday's snowstorm affected you?
I am staying inside.
I like snow and plan on cross-country skiing/sledding.
I don't like it because I have to shovel snow.
I expect it because I live in Northern Illinois.
It has not affected me at all.
