Leona Y. Cassens, 95, Polo, diedy Tuesday, Aug. 24 , 2010, at Polo Rehabilitation Center.

She worked for several years as Woosung Township Assessor.

Cassens was born, April 16, 1915 in Prophestown, the daughter of Byron and Minnie (Welch) Johnson.

She married Vernon Cassens on Feb. 9, 1935. He preceded her on May 10, 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Henry (Beverly) Cassens, Sterling, V. Robert (Alice) Cassens, Polo, Chris (Amy) Cassens, Sterling; a sister Margaret Snyder, Prophestown; three brothers, Bill (Donna) Johnson, Rock Falls, Max (Maybelle) Johnson, Prophestown, Mickey (Donna) Johnson, Sterling; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Hanrahan, Betty Diehl, and Mildred Estabrook; a grandson, Ethan Cassens; and a great-grandson, Chase Bushman.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Aug.27 at 11 a.m.  at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Polo.

Burial will be private at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Polo Rehabilitation Center, and Passages Hospice.
