L. Waive Whitten
L. Waive Whitten, 105, Oregon, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at Oregon Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 14, 1904 in Paw Paw, Mich., the daughter of William and Mary (Hill) Clute.
She married to Louie Whitten April 21, 1923 in Cassopolis, Mich.; he died March 4, 1990.
She was a past member of Eastern Star, home extension, the Yellow Bird Warblers, Esther Circle at Oregon United Methodist Church and enjoyed activities at the Mt. Morris Senior Center.
Whitten had been a foster grandma at Dixon State School, a foster parent for several years, and helped instigate the special education program in Oregon schools.
She is survived by son, LeRoy (Evelyn) Whitten, Mt. Morris; daughters, Mary Jo Whitten, Aurora, and Linda Hollis, Oregon; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 6 great -great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a daughter, Fay; four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27 at 12 p.m. at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, preceded by visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Richard Bright, Pinecrest Manor chaplain, will officiate.
Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery, Oregon. A memorial fund has been established.
