Walter W. Hachmeister

Walter Wessel Hachmeister, 85, died on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris. 

He was born on Nov. 24, 1924, the fourth son of Henry C. and Malinda (Wessel) Hachmeister.

He attended Fairview School north of Mt. Morris and graduated from Leaf River High School in 1943. 

He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. 

He was married to Carol Rucker, Polo, on Aug. 18, 1956 in a double ceremony with Jim Melvin and Marilyn Bollman.

Walter was employed by Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) for 28 years, retiring in 1982. 

He was a long time member of Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and teacher.

He also served on the Stillman Valley Library Board, Friends of the Library and the PTA.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Sandra (Tom) Glendenning, Stillman Valley; son Kevin (Kris) Hachmeister, Custer, S.D.;  grandchildren, Karl (Meghan) Glendenning, St. Louis, Mo., Ryan (Alison) Glendenning, Naperville, Malinda (Adam) Hurt, Stillman Valley, Lewis Hachmeister, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren, James Walter and Whittaker Glendenning and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Malinda Hachmeister; brothers, Ernest, Floyd, Herbert and Henry; a brother and sister in infancy; and nephews, Gaylord (Corky) Hachmeister and H. Scot Hachmeister.

Services were Feb. 27 at Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, Stillman Valley, with the Rev. Donald Holmertz officiating. 

Burial was at Plainview Cemetery, Mt. Morris.

Memorials may be made to the Pinecrest Good Samaritan Fund, Kishwaukee Church or Ogle County Hospice. 

Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, Mt. Morris.
