The stone pillars that mark the driveway to the Riverview Cemetery will be relocated during the Ill. 2 construction project.

Rich Rhoads, a member of the Riverview Cemetery Association said the two pillars will be moved to the west, by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“IDOT is going to move the pillars up the road back up the road toward the cemetery,” said Rhoads on Monday. “They’re paying to move the pillars back.”

Rhoads said the veterans memorial stone, that honors World War I veterans, will also be moved.

“The plaque that’s mounted on that stone will be removed and cleaned up,” Rhoads said. “We will keep it at the Oregon VFW until it is reinstalled.”

Riverview Cemetery was established in the 1830s and contains the grave of Oregon’s founder, John Phelps.

The large cemetery is located on a wooded hilltop with terraces located around the top portion. It overlooks the Rock River and offers a view of the Black Hawk Statue and Lowden State Park.

How has Friday's snowstorm affected you?
I am staying inside.
I like snow and plan on cross-country skiing/sledding.
I don't like it because I have to shovel snow.
I expect it because I live in Northern Illinois.
It has not affected me at all.
