VFW is taking names for food basket program
Once again at Christmas time, Oregon VFW Post 8739 will make up and deliver Christmas Food Baskets to families and individuals who are in need in the Oregon area.
Volunteers from the VFW and others, will make up the baskets on Dec. 18 and 19 and with the help of many more volunteers, will deliver them the morning of Dec. 19.
Any family or individual who is in need may call the VFW Monday through Saturday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. or 3:30 to 6 p.m. at 815-732-6851 and have a name placed on the list for a basket.
Each individual or family must call in with the complete name, address, and phone number for a basket to be delivered.
Someone must be home on the morning of Dec. 19 to receive the basket.
If no on will be home, someone will need to make arrangements to pick up the basket at the VFW on Saturday Dec. 20.
In addition, even those who have received a VFW basket at Christmas time in previous years, must call in again this year to be placed on the list.
The VFW was no way of knowing if people are still with us, or living at the same address or if their personal conditions are the same as last year.
The deadline for calling in to have your name placed on the list for a food basket will be Dec. 4.
Last year VFW Post 8739 provided more than 175 food baskets for area residents.
Donations from the general public to the Christmas basket program are always accepted, appreciated, and needed to continue this program.
Also anyone wishing to help deliver baskets may also contact the VFW.
